Laura Goble was born April 19, 1979 on the naval base in Jacksonville,
Florida. Her father was transferred three times to naval bases from
Florida and in California before he retired. The family settled in Long
Beach, California, when she was five years old. Her father eventually
was hired at Douglas Aircraft.
She had an interest in science and studied marine biology, as well vested interest in architecture, and aeronautics as a child. Exhibiting ability in art at an early age, she was encouraged to pursue it by her teachers. However, because of her love of classical music she wanted to play an instrument. Seven years were spent studying the trumpet and eventually the French horn. She auditioned in college, but was so nervous, she was unable to perform and quit playing, but was encouraged to study art because it seemed more suited to her strengths. She graduated from Biola University, in 2002, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree, in drawing and painting.
After College, so she went to Los Angeles City College to immerse herself in photography and film, thinking that she wanted to be a cinematographer. Eventually she joined a small production company in Long Beach. She spent 8 years as a camerawoman and video editor. During this time the longing to create physical objects began to resurface.
Around 2008, interested in ceramics and sculpture, she began studying them at Long Beach City College. Accepted into the ceramics program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she graduated in 2014. She now is an adjunct professor at Biola Univeristy and Long Beach City College, teaching ceramics. She is currently pursuing her studio practice in ceramics, sculpture, drawing, photography, performance, sound, and video.
